Three Days in the Garden Isle
Kauai is small enough to feel intimate and wild enough to feel like a genuine escape. Three days isn't long — but done right, it's enough to see the island's most breathtaking corners and come home deeply changed.

Day 1 — South Shore & Waimea Canyon
Morning: Waimea Canyon Drive up to the canyon overlook at sunrise. The "Grand Canyon of the Pacific" stretches 14 miles long and 3,600 feet deep. Red-walled, cloud-draped, and genuinely dramatic.
✦ Hoku Tip: Go early. Clouds roll in by midday and obscure the view.
Afternoon: Poipū Beach Kauai's most sheltered and swimmable beach. Watch for Hawaiian monk seals resting on shore — they're here more often than you'd think. Great snorkeling off the point.
Sunset: Brennecke's Lookout Watch the sun drop into the Pacific from the south shore with humpback whales offshore in winter.

Day 2 — Nā Pali Coast by Boat
Full Day: Nā Pali Coast Catamaran Tour The only way to truly see the Na Pali Coast is from the water. 3,000-foot sea cliffs, sea caves, waterfalls, spinner dolphins, and pristine beaches accessible only by sea.
✦ Hoku Pick: Book a morning departure catamaran with a snorkel stop. The afternoon route is rougher.
This is the single best experience in Kauai. Block the entire day.

Day 3 — North Shore & Hanalei Bay
Morning: Hanalei Bay The most beautiful bay in Hawaii. Paddle a surfboard or kayak in the calm morning water. The mountains rise directly from the shoreline behind you.
Late Morning: Kīlauea Lighthouse A 1913 lighthouse at the northernmost point of Kauai, perched above seabird nesting cliffs. Short walk from the parking area.
Afternoon: Hanalei Town The most charming town in Hawaii. Browse the boutiques on the one-block main street. Eat shave ice at Jo-Jo's. Have lunch at Hanalei Taro & Juice.
Sunset: The Edge of the Nā Pali Lookout (Ke'e Beach) At the end of the north shore road, Ke'e Beach sits at the base of the Na Pali cliffs. A short trail above the beach leads to a lookout over the coast. One of the best sunset views in Hawaii.
